Caroline and Derek are a super adventurous couple who met in college. Their love story has been filled with hiking, climbing, and whitewater kayaking adventures, especially in the majesty of the stunning Blue Ridge Mountains. I first photographed their engagement session last fall at Marshall Park in Charlotte, North Carolina, and I knew their wedding day would be unforgettable. They were so fun, had such a deep connection, and we had an amazing time capturing their engagement surrounded by the fall leaves!
A Beautiful Wedding Day
Their wedding day at Olde Beau Resort & Golf Club could not have been more perfect. The temperature was in the 70s (read: ideal!), the skies were clear, and the mountains looked breathtaking. The first look between Caroline and Derek was one of the sweetest moments of the day. They saw each other for the first time and shared a joyful tear before heading to the wedding ceremony. Surrounded by their closest friends and their entire family, they exchanged vows in a stunning outdoor ceremony with the perfect backdrop of the golf course and panoramic mountains. Their words were filled with love and meaning, and both of them cried during their vows. It was such an amazing ceremony!
After the ceremony, we wandered around the golf course for golden hour portraits. The light was magical, and the sunset turned a brilliant red over the Blue Ridge Parkway. It was the perfect backdrop for photos of this adventurous couple. We frolicked across the greens, and the joy between Caroline and Derek made the images come alive. A Grand Reception Full of Joy
Their grand reception was filled with lively dancing, laughter, and so much fun! Caroline and Derek had the most amazing first dance together. Instead of staying in the center alone, they invited everyone to join them on the dance floor. They whirled, twirled, and spun together on the dancefloor to choreography that they came up with themselves but could have absolutely been professional choreography. I was shocked when they told me they didn’t take dance lessons and instead built their dance from TikTok! At one point, Derek picked Caroline up and spun her around to the applause of their closest friends and family. It was such a joyful highlight of the entire day and such a reflection of their love story. As someone who loves capturing Olde Beau Resort & Golf Club wedding photography, moments like this first dance are what make storytelling through images so meaningful.
The night ended with a lovely sparkler exit that capped off this unforgettable day.
