As an LGBTQ+ wedding photographer, I don’t get nearly enough chances to photograph couples like Nikki and Ashley, so when they reached out for their engagement session at Kamila Gardens, I was thrilled. Here’s how their golden, warm afternoon came together.

Lacy wanted mountains in every photo. Karson was just happy to be marrying her. And the Blue Ridge Mountains at Hidden Hill Venue in Morganton, NC delivered in the most stunning way, including a sunset that I am still thinking about.

Rain in the forecast? No problem. Meagan and Seth’s Providence Cotton Mill engagement session proved that a little water (and a couple of clear umbrellas) can make for some of the most magical photos I’ve ever taken.

Samantha came in with a full vision: horse and carriage, candy truck, late night pretzel bar, a lace gown with a full train, heirloom pearls, and a white cowboy hat. Add in 92 degree heat, a rainstorm at golden hour, and a horse named Sammie who stole the show — and you’ve got one of the most memorable Alexander Homestead wedding days we’ve ever photographed.

Michael and I grew up together in Charlotte, so photographing his spring wedding to Liz at Alexander Homestead was one of those full-circle moments I will never forget. Blooming roses, a groom in a white suit, private vows, a Basenji ring bearer, and Kentucky Derby day chaos at the reception. It was such a good day.

Mark had a plan, a leafy “Will You Marry Me?” backdrop, a room full of Daniela’s favorite people, and one very special Brilliant Earth x Ring Pop ruby ring waiting in his pocket! I hid behind the orchids with my camera and held my breath — and what happened next was one of the most beautiful proposals I have ever had the honor of capturing inside the Orchid Conservatory at Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden!
