The Story of Hannah and Wylie’s Carefree, Rainy Wedding Day
Hannah and Wylie’s wedding day fell on a warm September afternoon. The forecast called for rain, but the couple was full of optimism. They planned on a first touch together so that they could read their vows and Hannah also wanted to do a first look with her dad. At another venue, finding beautiful spots that are sheltered from the rain can be tough, but not a wedding at Heron Hill Venue! We found gorgeous, dry locations for both under the porches and it was so sweet to see how Hannah and Wylie’s nervousness dissapated when they locked hands with each other.
They planned an outdoor ceremony, and as guests gathered, dark clouds and distant thunder rolled in. When the processional began, a light sprinkle started. By the time Hannah walked down the aisle, the rain was falling harder. With laughter and smiles (and a bit of running), the officiant led everyone inside to continue the ceremony in the reception space to pick up right where they left off.
Instead of being discouraged, Hannah and Wylie embraced the change. They exchanged vows in front of the sweetheart table and cake table while their friends and family watched from dinner tables. It felt so personal and joyful, and it was clear that to them, the only thing that mattered was marrying each other.
The couple took the rain in stride for the rest of their celebration. They had their first dance and parent dances outside on the outdoor patio, which typically serves as the dance floor. Guests gathered under umbrellas and the overhang while Hannah and Wylie twirled in the rain. They even did all of their couples portraits outside, fully embracing the weather. At one point, when Hannah’s dress became too heavy to dance in, she had her mom cut off the train with scissors!! I have never seen a bride so carefree and full of joy, and it was awesome to see!
Every moment of the reception, from dinner to dancing, felt like a reminder that a special day is not about perfection, but about love. Even their sparkler exit was in the rain, and it was every bit as magical as planned!
