The Ivey’s Hotel Photos – Jen and Trey’s Engagement

Moody engagement portraits inside the boutique hotel

I spend most of my days photographing in nature. I am usually outside in a garden or a field or on a mountainside somewhere during golden hour. It is rare that I am asked to create an indoor or moody style session, so when Jen shared her vision for her engagement photos with Trey, I was instantly hooked. She wanted city energy, vintage touches, modern luxury and all of it wrapped in a moody vibe. I pretty much lost sleep with excitement! We settled on starting our session with photos at The Ivey’s Hotel and it could not have been a more perfect setting for their session.

If you are dreaming of The Ivey’s Hotel Photos, this boutique hotel in the heart of Charlotte gives you everything you could want for a stylish session. The moment you walk inside the historic Ivey’s building you feel the city’s history blended with the most elegant details. There are oak floors that glow in the moody lighting. There are brick walls that bring in the perfect amount of texture. There is the famous library lounge that gives an editorial feel from the very first frame.

Jen and Trey wanted luxury and The Ivey’s delivered. We wandered from the grand staircase to the golden revolving doors and then into Sophia’s Lounge for a quiet moment. Sophia’s Lounge feels like a film set with rich colors and soft velvet seating and the coolest chandelier ever (check out their gallery for my favorite chandelier shot!). Hotel guests passed by with room service and warm smiles which only added to the charm. It really is modern luxury right in the heart of uptown Charlotte.

Everywhere we looked felt like a new scene waiting to be photographed. The bar glow. The soft lamps. The vintage art. Even the croque madame on the brunch menu made us smile. Every corner lent itself to the moody vision Jen dreamed of and it made these The Ivey’s Hotel Photos some of my favorites I have ever taken in Charlotte NC (and that’s saying a lot – I am born and raised here!).

One of the best parts of The Ivey’s Hotel is how close it is to so many iconic Charlotte spots. It is a short walk to the Mint Museum, the Spectrum Center and the Charlotte Convention Center. You can also see the Bank of America Stadium nearby which gives such a cool sense of place. Once we wrapped up our time inside the hotel we headed out to Romare Bearden Park for dramatic skyline shots. The skyscrapers felt massive all around us and the fall leaves made the perfect colorful backdrop. After that we ventured to the French Quarter area where Jen and Trey shared pizza in an alleyway and laughed like we had known each other for years.

This whole session felt like a celebration of their style and their love. Jen and Trey are getting married at The Ivory Barn next year and after this session I am already counting the days until I get to photograph them again! For anyone who wants a blend of vintage charm and urban beauty, I cannot recommend The Ivey’s Hotel Photos enough. This location creates magic for engagement sessions and gives you a look that feels both timeless and bold.

If you are dreaming of an engagement session with city elegance and a soft moody feel, I would love to create your own version of The Ivey’s Hotel Photos! This spot in the heart of Charlotte has become one of my absolute favorite places to photograph and I cannot wait to go back!

Enjoy some of my favorites from Jen and Trey’s engagement session!
