It’s the winter slow season here in wedding photographer land and I am loving having a little bit more time in my schedule to blog! I’ve been so busy this past season (yay!) and now with our first child due in March, this slow season is the perfect time for me to go back through all of my favorite sessions from the year and get them on the blog! I’d love to share a little bit about Emily and Daniel’s summer engagement session at one of my favorite gardens in the area, Glencairn Garden in Rock Hill, SC.
There are few places more charming for an engagement session than this place! Known for its lush greenery, vibrant flowers, and serene atmosphere, this garden is a true gem in the heart of South Carolina (and not a far drive from Charlotte, which is lovely!). Emily and Daniel’s summer engagement session perfectly showcased the beauty of this beloved spot, with blooming crape myrtles, colorful flower beds, and the natural romance of a warm summer evening.
Nestled in the vibrant city of Rock Hill, Glencairn Garden is a perfect example of South Carolina’s natural charm. Its well-maintained green spaces and blooming gardens make it a sought-after location for couples, families, and photographers alike. Emily and Daniel said they wanted some gorgeous greenery for their session and it was clear that the garden’s picturesque setting was the perfect match for their love story.
We decided to do our session on a weekday, to avoid the peak periods at the garden – mostly Saturdays and Sundays. We started off at one of the beautiful bridges that the beautiful garden has to offer. Emily and Daniel strolled hand-in-hand along the bridge, stopping under the large canopy of blooming crape myrtles. These trees, with their soft pink and white blossoms added a pop of summer color to their gallery. They are one of my favorites to photograph (my all-time favorite will always be cherry blossoms!) because when you gently shake the trees, they drop a few of their gorgeous blossoms, making for some dreamy and romantic photos! Summer is an especially magical time at Glencairn Garden in Rock Hill, SC. The crape myrtles are in full bloom, their petals gently falling like confetti in the breeze. In every direction, vibrant bursts of color from daylilies, hydrangeas, and roses create a rich tapestry of texture and beauty. There were even a handful of azaleas in bloom for their session (score!). Emily’s flowing summer dress and Daniel’s relaxed outfit complemented the natural palette of the garden perfectly.
One of the highlights of this session was capturing Emily and Daniel sharing a quiet moment on one of the garden’s iconic wooden bridges. Surrounded by blossoms and luscious greens, it was a photographer’s dream! It also helps that Emily and Daniel were absolute naturals in front of the camera and absolutely nailed their dip on the bridge!
What makes Glencairn Garden in Rock Hill, SC such a great place for engagement photos isn’t just its stunning variety of flowers or the charming crape myrtles—it’s the versatility of the space. Whether you’re looking for open green spaces, quiet nooks surrounded by greenery, or blooming floral backdrops, Glencairn Garden offers it all. It’s the perfect place for leisurely strolls, picnics, or a gorgeous engagement session (like Emily and Daniel’s!). The surrounding neighborhoods also add to the garden’s charm, with their quaint homes, tree-lined streets, and welcoming vibe that feels like classic small-town South Carolina. Adding to the charm of this session was the presence of a handful of vibrant azaleas tucked into the landscape. Their bright blossoms added an extra splash of color to the already stunning setting. Nearby, the presence of Winthrop University added a touch of local history and significance to the session, tying together the beauty of Rock Hill and York County. It’s both easy and hard to photograph Glencairn Gardens because there are so many beautiful spaces that you can easily move from one picturesque spot to another, but it’s also hard to know where to start! Even though I’ve photographed at the gardens many times, this was the first time we made it to the veterans garden. I really enjoyed utilizing the fountain for a few of their photos!
For Emily and Daniel, the garden was more than just a setting for their photos. It was a place where they could slow down, enjoy each other’s company, and celebrate their upcoming wedding in a space that felt uniquely theirs. Their laughter, tender glances, and the playful moments shared under the summer sun made for a session filled with genuine emotion.
Emily and Daniel’s engagement session was filled with those little moments that make a photo truly timeless: a stolen kiss under an archway of blooming crape myrtle trees, running playfully in an open field, and a gorgeous dip on the wooden bridge. These are the moments that make engagement photography so meaningful, and Glencairn Garden in Rock Hill, SC provided the perfect setting to bring them to life!
If you’re considering an engagement session in South Carolina, Glencairn Garden in Rock Hill, SC should be at the top of your list. With its stunning variety of flowers, serene pathways, and romantic atmosphere, it’s a location that promises beautiful photos and lasting memories.
