We are SO excited to welcome our first baby in March of this year! Pregnancy has been such a trying time for me (anyone else have super crazy symptoms?), so we are very ready to see the light at the end of the tunnel and we can’t wait to finally hold our baby girl in our arms!
We had such a fun time decorating the nursery! There are so many themes that we wanted to go with. We looked into a theme around jungle animals (there’s the former zookeeper in me coming out!), woodland animals, anime/Pokémon (there’s the nerd in both of us coming out!!) and a Japanese theme. We ended up with a main theme of woodland animals because of a family of deer that live in our neighborhood that we would see on our walks with the dogs. We’d always see mama, daddy, and two twin baby deer grazing in the small fields around our neighborhood, so we took it as a sign to go with a woodland theme! We couldn’t help but sneak in a few of our other themes in a subtle way as well! Baby girl’s mobile is Totoro from My Neighbor Totoro, she has a few jungle animal plushies so far, and we added cherry blossom accents for some pops of color!
I’ve been reading a lot of baby and parenting books to try and get as prepared as possible for baby girl’s arrival. So far, I have absolutely loved Cribsheet, The Happiest Baby on the Block, Hunt Gather Parent, and The Opt-Out Family. With only a few short weeks until she is predicted to make her arrival, I might be able to squeeze one more book in! I just started on a book called Simplicity Parenting and it’s been great so far!

Being a photographer, I was SO excited about scheduling maternity photos! Our perfect window fell in January, which means that the outdoors is not as pretty as I would have liked it to be, but we didn’t let that phase us! We scheduled some maternity photos through Kira Jeffery Photography and we couldn’t be happier! I wasn’t feeling well during our session (I ended up finding out I was anemic and needing iron transfusions a few days later), but I am so happy I powered through the fatigue for our session! I know I will look back and cherish these photos in the years to come!
In addition to our studio maternity session, luck just so happened to be on our side and I was still pregnant when the first of the cherry blossoms bloomed! Tyler and I drove to my favorite pink cherry blossom location and took a few tripod pictures just because!
Tyler and I can’t wait to become parents in the next few weeks! Thanks for reading and if anyone has some helpful parenting tips or advice, feel free to drop them in the comments!
Below are a few of my favorites from our studio session with Kira Jeffery Photography!
