Nature Filled Engagement Session at Stevens Creek Nature Preserve

Outdoor engagement photos Charlotte featuring couple in soft golden light

If you are dreaming of outdoor engagement photos Charlotte, Corey and Tyler’s session at Stevens Creek Nature Preserve will give you all the inspiration you need. These two are adventurous, full of joy, and completely themselves in front of the camera which made their entire photo session feel like we were simply hanging out in a beautiful natural setting. They told me all about their plans for a destination wedding and we even chatted about skydiving and bungee jumping which had us laughing the whole time. Spending the evening with them was so much fun!

We chose Stevens Creek Nature Preserve because it is one of my favorite places for couples who want a session filled with natural beauty. Although it is a relatively new park in the Charlotte area, it has quickly become my go to for fall and winter sessions. The open fields glow at sunset, especially during golden hour, and the tall trees create the perfect balance of shadows and warmth. Even in the colder months when color is scarce, the golden grass in the front field makes a truly perfect backdrop for beautiful engagement photos!

Corey and Tyler loved exploring every part of this wonderful preserve. The front field offered soft light, space to move, and that dreamy open space feeling that photographs so well. The preserve has so much variety which made it feel like we had an entire gallery of locations inside one park. We wandered along the walking trails, stopped at both of the charming bridges, and frolicked in the tall, golden grass in the field. In the summertime this area fills with tiny wildflowers which makes it an especially unique spot for some romantic shots.

One thing I love about Stevens Creek is that most of the time it feels like we have the entire place to ourselves. It’s a great option for couples who want natural beauty and can only schedule on the weekends, because even on the weekends we don’t have a worry about a ton of people in the background of our photos. It is rarely crowded which makes it an ideal location for couples who want privacy during their session. While locations in the heart of the city like Freedom Park, Marshall Park, Romare Bearden Park, etc. are all beautiful, there is something so wonderful about not having to worry about parking, traffic, or other people during your session without sacrificing on a perfect location. It is also one of the great places in North Carolina to capture that peaceful, woodsy atmosphere without driving too far from the city. Whether you love grassy areas, winding trails, or natural scenery, this preserve truly has so much to offer.

Since Corey and Tyler are so adventurous, we made sure to include a little bit of everything. We took a few intentionally “awkward” photos that had us cracking up. We also created some classic poses and some movement based moments that showed off their fun personalities. Between the soft sunlight and the way these two look at each other, it all came together so beautifully!

If you are searching for outdoor engagement photos Charlotte, Stevens Creek Nature Preserve is a great location to consider. From the golden grasses to the quiet trails to the tall trees that frame the sky, it is a popular spot for couples who want a peaceful and outdoorsy feel. Whether you choose golden hour like we did or an early morning session, this place always delivers stunning natural scenery and beautiful engagement photos.

As a wedding photographer who adores exploring new pockets of nature, I absolutely love bringing couples to this favorite place of mine. If you are planning your own engagement session and want a setting filled with much variety, gorgeous light, and authentic moments, I would love to help you capture it all. Let’s create something magical together!

Please enjoy some of my favorites from Corey and Tyler’s engagement session!
