Le Chateau du Coeur Wedding Photographer | Emma and Adam’s Engagement Session

There is a French chateau in the North Carolina foothills. A REAL one, with a slate roof and a turret and a butter yellow facade, sitting on almost 50 acres about an hour west of Charlotte. My very first time pulling up to Le Chateau du Coeur, I had to just sit there for a minute and soak it all in. It’s truly breathtaking! Now, I’m really thankful to be a Le Chateau du Coeur wedding photographer, because I get to take photos at this stunning venue!

Emma and Adam won my engagement session giveaway at a bridal show earlier this year. They live up in Denver, and Emma works over in SouthPark, so this was a bit of a drive for all of us, but let me tell you, it was worth every mile! They are getting married this coming April, and we spent a golden late summer evening walking the grounds while I showed them exactly what this venue can do.

Spoiler: it can do a lot. If you are here because your date at Le Chateau du Coeur is locked in and you are now hunting for a photographer, scroll down. I put everything I’ve learned into this post for you!

Emma and Adam

Emma showed up in a blue and cream floral gown and it was the perfect match to this gorgeous venue. Adam wore a blue gingham shirt and khakis and spent most of the evening looking at her like he could not quite believe his luck.

Two things happened early that told me exactly how this session was going to go. First, Adam picked Emma up under the rose covered colonnade without me asking, and she laughed so hard she had to hide her face in his shoulder. Second, when we got out to the stone footbridge and I said “just dance,” they actually did. No hesitation, no awkward shuffling. He spun her, she threw her head back, and I got the shot I would have driven twice as far for.

That is the whole trick with engagement photos, by the way. I do not need you to pose. I need you to do something together and forget I am there for a few seconds. Emma and Adam were naturals at it!

Why this venue is a photographer’s dream

I have shot a lot of beautiful places across the Carolinas. This one is different, and it really comes down to variety.

Most venues hand you two or three good backdrops and you work them hard. Le Chateau du Coeur gives you an ENTIRE European vacation without leaving the property! Yellow stucco and stone architecture with green shutters and arched windows. Wrought iron balconies. A stone footbridge over a pool with waterfalls. Manicured gardens and climbing roses. Rolling hills and foothill views. And inside, a grand staircase with black iron scrollwork and tall windows that pour light straight down the steps.

Look at the gallery below and count the different worlds we visited in one evening. That is what your wedding gallery gets to look like! We didn’t even touch over half of the beautiful spots at this amazing venue in this engagement session (We’d need all day for that!).

The best photo spots at Le Chateau du Coeur

If you are planning your day here, build your timeline around these:

The front entrance and balcony. The chateau facade is the hero shot. Stone steps, urns, topiary, and a small iron balcony right above the door. Emma and Adam stood up there while I shot from the driveway below, and it turned into one of my favorite frames of the night. It so romantic that it reads like a movie. Ask your venue contact about balcony access when you tour!

The rose colonnade. The covered walkway along the side of the house with roses and vines climbing the stone columns. Soft, shaded, romantic, and forgiving light even when the sun is still high. This is where I would take you first if we started early.

The stone footbridge and waterfalls. My favorite surprise on the property. The balustrade, the rock work, the water moving underneath. Water catches light, which means these photos have depth instead of looking flat. Give this spot 20 minutes and do something active here. Dance, walk, spin, and you won’t be disappointed!

The grand staircase and the tall window. Do not skip the inside! That staircase with the iron railing and the light coming through the arched doors is genuinely special, and it is also your rain plan. Any Le Chateau du Coeur wedding photographer you hire should be confident in indoor light so a gray April day never becomes your problem.

The gardens and the grounds. Roses, greenery, and foothill views for the wide romantic frames you print big. I’m in love with the columns and they photograph beautifully!

Timeline notes for a wedding here

A few things I noted on the property, because timeline is the question I get most:

The estate sits in the foothills, so the sun drops behind the ridges earlier than it does in Charlotte. Golden hour here is not the same as golden hour at a flat open venue. Plan to steal away about 1 hour before official sunset in order to get a good 20 -30 minutes in the perfect evening golden hour light!

The grounds are big. Walking from the house down to the bridge takes real minutes, more in a dress and heels. When I build a wedding timeline for Le Chateau du Coeur I add travel time between spots on the property itself, which is not something every venue require.

Consider a first look! With this much ground to cover, couples who see each other before the ceremony end up with a noticeably bigger and more varied gallery. However, there’s no pressure either way, I have shot both and both are lovely, but here it makes a real difference.

Do engagement photos on the property if you can. Emma and Adam now know where the light lands, where the good corners are, and what it feels like to walk those grounds together without a hundred people watching. On their wedding day none of it will be new.

Booking a Le Chateau du Coeur wedding photographer

Here is the honest pitch: I am a Charlotte based wedding photographer serving the Carolinas and beyond. I only take 15 weddings a year so the couples I work with get all of me. My whole thing is being the calm in the middle of your day. The one who fluffs your dress, hypes you up, keeps the timeline moving, and hands you photos that feel like the two of you.

If your date is set and your photographer spot is still open, come say hi and see what I offer! Tell me your date and what you are picturing, and let’s find out if we are a fit!

I'm a Charlotte-based wedding and elopement photographer serving couples across the Carolinas and beyond. On your wedding day, I'm your calm in the chaos, your hype girl, your dress fluffer, and the person making sure every moment is captured beautifully.
