This might sound a little funny, but I love a little bit of challenge on a wedding day! Okay, you might immediately be thinking, Katie, that sounds crazy. Weddings can already be stressful enough, and you’re saying you enjoy extra challenges..? I sure do! I always feel like I’m at my creative best when I have a (emphasis on) little bit of a challenge or a little something I have to work around to create some magic! Eric and Erica’s wedding day at Warehouse 18 Venue in Hickory, NC was perfect: a beautiful day, with a phenomenal couple, and a little bit of a challenge to keep things exciting!
Let me start off by saying Warehouse 18 is an absolutely adorable wedding venue! Nestled right in downtown Hickory it’s the perfect spot for a wedding with a smaller guest count for a warm, cozy vibe with a hint of that industrial look. As a photographer with a lighter/brighter style, the lighting can be just a little bit challenging (which for me, was super fun!). I got to pull out my on camera flashes, my off-camera flashes, and my trusty shoot-through umbrellas to create light and bright images for Eric and Erica on their big day.
Eric, Erica and I clicked right away when we first met. I had the pleasure of photographing their engagement session up in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Erica’s mom, dad, and a few other family members joined us for the session and I remember laughing pretty much the entire time! Eric and Erica have so much fun together and they have a natural chemistry, so not only did we get amazing photos, we had a blast doing it too!
For their wedding day, Erica and her bridesmaids rocked Converse shoes, which was such a fun and personal touch. Erica’s mom, Pam, hand-stitched some beautiful, white lace into Erica’s Wedding Converse. I absolutely love photographing sweet, personal details like that! If you’re wondering what special items to include for your wedding day for gorgeous images, check out my blog post about what to include for your wedding day details. And Eric? He rocked Dungeons and Dragons socks, showing off his personality and sense of fun. Speaking of fun, they both wrote their own vows and had everyone laughing (and crying) the entire time!
Despite their wedding venue being very industrial, it does sport a small, secret garden in the back that made for some absolutely magical couples images. We even found the Crepe Myrtle Trees in bloom, so my flower-loving was able to create some beautiful, nature images to add to their gallery!
Warehouse 18 Venue in Hickory, NC isn’t just a venue—it’s a place where Eric and Erica brought their love story to life. From its industrial charm to that surprising secret garden, this venue was the perfect backdrop for a wedding that perfectly reflected their style and love.
Thanks for joining me on this journey through Eric and Erica’s wedding day! To Eric and Erica, thank you so much for trusting me to capture your big day! You are the sweetest and I wish you both all the happiness in the world!
