As a wedding photographer in North Carolina, there’s nothing I love more than capturing love stories surrounded by nature—and Blue Hill Garden in Monroe NC is the perfect place for just that. This stunning flower field is a dream setting for romantic engagement photos, and this spring, I had the joy of photographing Grace and Jacob there during the final week of the season.
Located in Monroe NC, Blue Hill Garden is a seasonal u-pick flower farm that draws visitors from all over the United States to experience its vibrant blooms and rustic charm. It’s no surprise that this hidden gem has even gained attention on TikTok for its rows of colorful flowers and peaceful, countryside backdrop. This session combined so many things I love: nature, golden light, and a couple with an adventurous spirit.
A Bloom-Filled Session Just in Time
Due to being on maternity leave during much of the spring season, I wasn’t able to photograph at Blue Hill Garden Monroe NC until later in the season. Thankfully, Grace and Jacob were flexible—and it worked out perfectly. We visited on a warm Friday evening after a week of rain, and the garden was still bursting with color. We were greeted with bright red poppies, romantic pink flowers, soft purple larkspur, cheery sunflowers, and a variety of wildflowers in bloom.
Despite the nearly 90-degree heat and Southern humidity, the session was filled with laughter, storytelling, and the kind of joy that makes you forget how much you’re sweating! The week of cloudy skies gave way to a golden, glowing sunset that lit up the entire flower field. By pure luck, we had timed it just right—Blue Hill Gardens ended their spring season a week early, so we truly caught the last of the spring bloom.
From Mt. Rainier to Monroe NC
Grace and Jacob are an outdoorsy couple who got engaged during a hiking trip to Mt. Rainier in Washington. Naturally, they wanted their engagement photos to reflect that same love for the outdoors and the natural beauty of springtime. Their spring 2026 wedding is going to be a floral celebration, so Blue Hill Garden felt like the perfect place to begin their journey.
As the sun dipped below the horizon, we stayed into blue hour for a romantic finale. Grace and Jacob popped a bottle of champagne and toasted to their future together—surrounded by flowers and the sound of crickets in the evening air.
