Maria & Eric’s Gorgeous Mariposa Chapel Wedding

Romantic rainy night photo under string lights at Mariposa Chapel wedding

I had the absolute joy of photographing Maria and Eric’s beautiful Mariposa Chapel Wedding, and I couldn’t wait to share it with you. This one was something really special. The venue, the couple, the weather (and even the rain!)—everything just came together in the most magical way.

If you haven’t heard of Mariposa Chapel & Events yet, it’s a newer wedding venue tucked away in the rolling hills of Iron Station, NC, and it’s quickly becoming one of my favorites. The owner and venue coordinator, Annea, has done such a beautiful job transforming this historic building into a warm, welcoming space. It still holds all of its historic charm, but with some really thoughtful modern updates.

A Relaxed Morning in the Chapel Suites

Maria and Eric’s wedding day was relaxed and full of emotion from the start. One of the best things about Mariposa is how everything is in one place—you’ve got the bridal suite and groom’s lounge right inside the chapel, so you don’t have to travel anywhere. It makes the whole day smoother (and way less stressful). The vibe felt calm, joyful, and focused on what really mattered: being with their people. For Maria’s space, the white linens of the curtains and the gorgeous antique couches combined with chandeliers makes the getting ready space an absolute photographer’s dream! Eric’s space wasn’t too shabby either – with a spacious groom’s suite to get ready in, it’s the perfect setting to get ready for your big day.

They had around 60 guests—close friends and family—and the space felt just right. It’s such a lovely option for a small wedding, or even an intimate elopement or vow renewal.

Their First Look in the Garden

One of my favorite parts of the day was Maria and Eric’s first look. They chose the green garden area by the fountain, tucked beneath a few big oaks. The light was gorgeous, and even though it was a hot, sunny day, there were plenty of shady spots to keep cool. When Eric turned around to see Maria for the first time—wearing delicate orchid earrings in honor of her mom’s wedding bouquet—it was such a heartfelt moment. They read letters to each other that they had written and spent the entire time laughing and crying happy tears as they shared their private moment in the garden. It’s really sweet to see two people who are so obviously in love. It’s honestly, the best part of my job!!

Gorgeous Photo Spots Around the Venue

As a wedding photographer, I can’t tell you how much I love shooting at Mariposa Chapel & Events. Even though it’s a smaller venue, there are so many amazing little pockets of beauty. There’s this sweet little walkway with plants on both sides and string lights overhead—so dreamy at night! And the greenhouse is a new favorite spot of mine. Annea recently added a bold red Victorian couch inside, and it popped beautifully in their portraits.

Everything about this place is so thoughtfully styled, which makes it easy to create stunning images without needing a huge property or extravagant decor. It’s truly an ideal setting for couples who want something beautiful, simple, and meaningful.

Ceremony in the Chapel & Rainy Night Magic

Their wedding ceremony took place in the charming indoor chapel, which is full of character with its white walls and cozy wooden pews. You could feel the emotion in the room—it was so intimate and personal. My absolute favorite part was during the exchange of rings. Apparently Eric’s ring still needed to be resized, so when it came time for Maria to put the ring on Eric, she struggled to put it on, which caused a ton of laughter from the both of them as well as all of their guests! One of my favorite photos from the wedding day is them laughing at each other at the altar!

Afterward, the reception hall offered both indoor and outdoor areas, which was perfect because… surprise! It rained at the end of the night. But instead of it putting a damper on the evening, it honestly added a little magic. Maria and Eric embraced it completely—we took portraits in the rain under the string lights with some umbrellas and they turned out incredible. Their guests even came outside for a bubble send-off in the rain, which felt straight out of a movie.

Why I Love This Venue

If you’re looking for a cost-effective venue that still feels high-end and elegant, I can’t recommend Mariposa Chapel & Events enough. This historic venue offers full-day venue access, plenty of flexibility (rain or shine), and endless photo opportunities. Whether you’re planning a small wedding, an intimate elopement, or even just dreaming of an enchanting garden package with a romantic dance floor under the stars, this spot is such a gem.

Maria and Eric’s Mariposa Chapel Wedding was the perfect mix of heartfelt moments, natural beauty, and joyful celebration. It’s days like these that remind me why I love what I do—and why this specific location in Iron Station is quickly becoming one of my top places to shoot.

Now, please enjoy some of my favorites from Maria and Eric’s big day!
