The Best Charlotte NC Engagement Session Locations

If you’re newly engaged (congrats!) and starting to plan your engagement shoot, you’re probably wondering where to take those dreamy photos you’ll love forever. As a wedding photographer in the Charlotte area, I’ve explored so many amazing spots—and I’m here to share my favorite places for engagement photography in and around the Queen City.

These are my picks for the best locations for an engagement shoot—each one a beautiful location with natural beauty, unique charm, and plenty of personality. Whether you’re after romantic gardens, vibrant city streets, or peaceful lakeside moments, this list of engagement photo locations Charlotte NC has something for everyone.

1. Daniel Stowe Conservancy

My personal favorite—Daniel Stowe Conservancy—(previously called Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden) is a perfect location for your love story. This beautiful location has so much variety: colorful blooms, elegant fountains, peaceful walking trails, and a stunning glass greenhouse that photographs like a dream. I especially love the arches full of succulents and air plants! The natural settings make every shot timeless, and it’s one of those places that truly feels like a hidden fairytale. The only downside? You might never want to leave.

2. Marshall Park

Right in the heart of Charlotte, Marshall Park is a great spot for couples who want skyline views mixed with greenery. It’s also just steps from the courthouse—those classic white columns photograph beautifully and add a sophisticated touch to your gallery. The small pond and fountain make a perfect backdrop, and because it’s in the heart of uptown, it’s easy to pair with other nearby locations. Plus this location sports the most amazing Gingko tree that turns a vibrant yellow in the fall – which makes it the perfect spot for fall engagement photos!

3. Romare Bearden Park

Located in the heart of uptown Charlotte, Romare Bearden Park is one of the most popular locations for couples who love vibrant energy. You’ll get open lawns, modern fountains, and some of the best skyline views in the city. This great location works for both elegant and playful shots, so you can really customize the vibe of your engagement photos. The large fountain complete with colored lights at this park makes it one of the most unique spots on my list! Plus, this location is quite close to a lot of other photogenic spots, including the Mint Museum and the French Quarter

5. UNCC Botanical Gardens

For natural beauty without leaving the city, the UNCC Botanical Gardens are a great place to wander. With lush greenery, seasonal blooms, and lots of trees, you’ll find hidden nooks that feel private and peaceful—perfect for intimate engagement photography.

4. Jetton Park

If you dream of Lake Norman sunsets, Jetton Park is calling your name. This great spot has sandy shores, shady pines, and lots of trees along its walking trails. It’s a perfect location for romantic lakeside shots, especially during golden hour. The combination of water, woods, and open sky gives you much variety for your session.

6. Glencairn Gardens

Just a short drive to Rock Hill, Glencairn Gardens is bursting with charm. In spring, it’s a riot of color, but it’s gorgeous year-round thanks to the bridges and ponds that make beautiful photo spots. This beautiful location has both natural settings and landscaped pathways, making it a great option for couples who want that mix of elegance and romance.

7. Steven’s Creek Nature Preserve

For couples who love the outdoors, Steven’s Creek Nature Preserve is a perfect location in any season. In summer and fall, the walking trails and forest areas are lush and green. In winter, the golden grass takes over, creating warm, glowing backgrounds—proof that you can still get cozy, beautiful images even when the weather isn’t perfect. With its streams, open fields, and lots of trees, it’s a great spot for natural, relaxed engagement photos.

8. South End

If you want a modern, colorful vibe, South End has much variety—murals, breweries, historic brick buildings, colorful murals, and the iconic light rail. My personal favorite spots for photos are along the rail trail, where you’ll find colorful art and interesting architecture at every turn. And here’s the best part: after your engagement shoot, you can turn it into a date night—South End has so many great restaurants and breweries. I always recommend Hawkers for a fun, flavorful dinner to celebrate your session (make sure to order the Bao Buns if you go! Trust me on this!)
