Christine got ready in the bridal suite on property, which is one of my favorite things about Alexander Homestead. The natural light in there is beautiful for detail shots and getting ready photos, and it sets such a relaxed, gorgeous tone for the morning. I especially love the large mirror that they have as it’s great for dress hanging shots and getting ready shots alike! Her dress was already stunning on the hanger, but once she was in it? The fitted bodice, the full and flowing skirt, the lace detail was chef’s kiss! It was everything. We took our time with the details because a dress like that deserves it. The First Look
Christine and Rob did a first look, and it was so worth it. Seeing Rob’s face when he turned around is one of those moments I will always love as a Charlotte wedding photographer. It gave them a chance to breathe, take each other in, and have a few quiet minutes together before the rest of the day swept them away. First looks at Alexander Homestead are always special because there are so many beautiful, tucked away (and shaded!) spots on the property where you can have a genuinely private moment together.
The Garden Ceremony
The outdoor ceremony took place under the white gazebo surrounded by blooming spring gardens, and the weather could not have been more perfect. Warm, sunny, with just enough of a breeze to give Christine’s skirt that soft, romantic movement and her Hollywood waves a gentle tussle. The botanical gardens were in full spring mode, and the whole setting felt lush and alive in the best possible way. This is exactly the kind of day that makes me so grateful to photograph spring weddings in Charlotte, North Carolina. The dogwood trees were blooming which added the perfect spring touch to Christine’s already very spring vibe.
Golden Hour in the Gardens
Okay, I have to talk about golden hour because it was absolutely unreal. That warm, glowy afternoon light filtering through the century old oak trees and wrapping around Christine’s dress was everything I could have hoped for.
I had Christine grab her skirt in both hands and run toward me with Rob right beside her in front of the historic manor, and the movement her dress created was just stunning. We also did a runaway bride shot with Rob chasing her across the lawn, and her full skirt added the most perfect whimsy to it. These are the kinds of photos that are only possible when a bride is game for a little adventure and her dress has the personality to match, and Christine absolutely delivered on both. The Reception and the Moment That Stole the Show
The reception was warm, joyful, and full of the kind of details that make a wedding feel like the couple who planned it. But I have to tell you about what happened after the first dance, because it was one of the most unexpectedly adorable things I have ever witnessed at a wedding. Rob’s family surprised him with a full on Star Wars lightsaber battle right there on the dance floor. I am talking choreography, sound effects, the whole thing. The look on Rob’s face was priceless, and the whole room absolutely lost it. It was such a perfect, personal moment that said so much about who Rob is and how much his family loves him.
The night wrapped up with a bubble exit that was soft and dreamy and every bit as magical as the rest of the day.
