Alexander Homestead Weddings | Charlotte, NC Wedding Photographer

There are some wedding days that just feel like they were written in the stars, and Katie and Jamison’s spring celebration at the historic Alexander Homestead was absolutely one of them. As a Charlotte NC wedding photographer, I have had the privilege of shooting at some truly stunning venues across the Carolinas, but every single time I pull up to Alexander Homestead, I fall in love with it all over again. Tucked away like a hidden gem in the heart of Charlotte, this historic home and its fantastic gardens never fail to take my breath away.

The Incredible Wedding Venue That Is Alexander Homestead

If you are an engaged couple searching for an inclusive wedding venue in Charlotte NC, let me tell you about this place. The historic Alexander Homestead is a stunning 1903 Queen Anne Victorian estate sitting on acres of gorgeous gardens right in the heart of Charlotte. It is the kind of venue that does not feel like it should exist inside a city, which is exactly what makes it so magical. The carriage house serves as a dreamy bridal suite where the wedding party gets ready, and the beautiful grounds offer so many incredible spots for wedding photos at every hour of the day. From the towering trees and blooming garden beds to the warm glow of the barn at night, this really is an incredible wedding venue that checks every single box. The beauty of this venue is one of the many reasons I love being an Alexander Homestead wedding photographer!

Four Katies, Two Boys, and One Perfect Backdrop

Here is a fun little detail that had all of us laughing throughout the day: Katie’s bridal party included two bridesmaids named Katie as well, and then there is me (also Katie!), so we had four Katies total on this beautiful wedding day! Bride Katie thought it was the sweetest thing and wanted a photo of all four of us together, which we absolutely made happen. It is one of my favorite images from the day. Another incredibly sweet moment was when Katie was walked down the aisle by her two young boys. If you want to talk about a moment that had not a dry eye in the house, that was it. Her boys escorting their mom to the love of her life was just everything.

The First Look and Those Blooming Trees

We did the first look outside at the back of the manor, and I cannot overstate how perfectly timed it was. A cherry blossom tree and a redbud tree were both in full bloom, and they made for the most stunning, soft, romantic perfect backdrop you could dream of. Katie’s wedding dress looked absolutely ethereal underneath those branches, and Jamison’s face when he turned around and saw her for the first time was a moment I will never forget. This is exactly why I love a first look. The intimate ceremony that followed was surrounded by that same natural beauty, and the fantastic gardens provided the kind of soft, dreamy light that makes wedding photography feel effortless.

Sunset at the Manor and Blue Hour in the Garden

As the evening rolled in, we snuck away for sunset portraits at the front of the manor and then stayed out for blue hour in the gorgeous gardens. There is something about that soft, dusky light falling over a historic home and its blooming flower beds that just makes every single image feel like a painting. This is one of the many reasons Alexander Homestead makes such a perfect backdrop for wedding photography. No matter what time of day you are shooting, the venue delivers something magical.

Reception Details That Were Absolutely Picture Perfect

The reception details were so thoughtfully done. The table linens were custom ordered in white with a delicate floral pattern, layered with candles and arrangements of white roses and blue hydrangeas. It was elegant, romantic, and felt so perfectly in tune with the venue. The weather cooperated beautifully too. It was warm enough that the homestead could open those gorgeous barn doors at night, letting the spring air drift in, but cool enough that a campfire outside felt absolutely perfect. Truly, the kind of weather you cannot plan for but hope with everything you have to get on your special day.

One of my absolute favorite moments of the night was the campfire session. Katie and Jamison fed each other s’mores by the fire, and it was the most perfectly relaxed, joyful, genuinely them moment of the whole evening. Their love story really came through in moments like that. No posing, no fuss, just the two of them laughing and being completely present. Those are the wedding photos I live for.

The Bustle Situation We Are All Still Laughing About

Okay, I have to tell you about the bustle. About halfway through the night, Katie’s bustle broke. Now, a lesser bride might have panicked, but not this Katie. She gathered up the back of her wedding dress and tied it into a big knot. An absolutely massive knot. It looked exactly like a little bunny tail, and it was honestly one of the funniest and most adorable things I have ever seen at a wedding! She wore it with complete confidence for the rest of the night, and that little bunny tail made an appearance in more than a few photos. It is the kind of thing that becomes part of the legend of a wedding day, and I love that for her! In all my years as an Alexander Homestead wedding photographer, I have not seen this one before!

The Unplanned Last Dance That Stole the Show

Here is another moment that was completely unplanned and ended up being one of the highlights of the night. Their getaway car was running late, so while their family and friends lined up for the bubble exit, the DJ kept the music going. Katie and Jamison ended up dancing together, just the two of them, while everyone watched and cheered them on. It was completely spontaneous and so full of joy. The images I got of that last dance are some of my favorites from the entire wedding. Sometimes the unscripted moments are the ones that matter most, and this was proof of that.

When the getaway car finally arrived, Katie and Jamison made their grand exit through a tunnel of bubbles surrounded by everyone they love. It was the perfect ending to a perfect night, and I may have teared up a little behind my camera. That is what this work is all about.
