There’s something extra special about a Charlotte winter engagement—especially when it doesn’t feel like winter at all! Merritt and Trip’s engagement session at Daniel Stowe Conservancy was one of those days that felt like a gift. Planned as a winter engagement session, it ended up feeling warm, relaxed, and full of life, which made it such a joy to photograph.
When Merritt and Trip reached out, they knew they wanted winter engagement photos that felt timeless and romantic without heavy coats or chilly vibes. They also wanted greenery, movement, and a location that felt a little magical. Daniel Stowe Conservancy checked every box (It’s one of my favorite spots in Charlotte for this very reason!). Between the Orchid Conservatory and the palm trees outside, it honestly felt like a summer escape even though this session took place in December!
A Winter Engagement Session That Felt Like Summer
We lucked out with one of those rare, sunny winter days in Charlotte NC. The light was soft, the air was warm, and the conservatory was glowing. The Orchid Conservatory is hands-down a favorite place for engagement sessions because it offers lush greenery year-round. It’s especially perfect for couples who want that fresh, garden feel without worrying about the season. The light is always so glowy in there too!
Outside, the palm trees added such a fun twist for a winter session. If you didn’t know better, you’d think we were somewhere tropical or maybe even in South Carolina. Merritt and Trip leaned fully into it, treating the session like a relaxed date night, laughing, talking, and enjoying every moment together. Being front of the camera can feel awkward at first for some couples (and I promise it gets better after the first 5-10 minutes!), but these two were naturals. They had much fun, and it shows in every frame!
Why Daniel Stowe Is Perfect for a Charlotte Winter Engagement
As wedding photographers, we’re always thinking about locations that photograph beautifully in every season. Daniel Stowe Conservancy is one of those places that never disappoints. From the soft light inside the conservatory to the open paths and gorgeous plants and unique textures outside, it’s ideal for a winter engagement session that doesn’t scream “winter.”
For couples planning winter sessions in or around uptown Charlotte, this spot is worth the short drive. It gives variety, privacy, and a peaceful setting that allows couples to truly be themselves. It’s no surprise that so many NC photographers and videographers love working here.
Merritt & Trip’s Love Story
Spending the afternoon with Merritt and Trip felt like reading a love letter written in real time. Their connection is easy and genuine, and photographing them felt effortless. They’re the kind of couple who makes you excited for their most beautiful wedding day, and theirs is coming up fast!
They’ll be getting married at Alexander Homestead this June, and if their engagement session is any indication, their wedding is going to be incredible. Alexander Homestead is stunning in the summer, and I already know their day will be full of emotion, laughter, and so many meaningful moments. Whether it’s a summer celebration or a winter wedding, what matters most is the joy they bring to each other—and Merritt and Trip have plenty of that.
Ending the Session on a High Note
As we wrapped up, we found ourselves in a soft, open area that felt like a golden field, even in winter. The light was perfect, the mood was calm, and it was the ideal way to end such a good time together. Sessions like this are a reminder of why I love what I do—capturing real connection in beautiful places.
If you’re dreaming of a Charlotte winter engagement that feels warm, romantic, and natural, Daniel Stowe Conservancy is an amazing option. Merritt and Trip’s session is proof that winter can be just as magical as any other season when you choose the right location and lean into the moment.
