When Nyazia and Isaiah reached out about their engagement session, I knew right away this one was going to be special. They drove in from Spartanburg, they were so excited to have me as their photographer, and they came with a full vision already in mind! That vision turned into one of my favorite Romare Bearden Park engagement photos sessions this year.
We started the evening a little differently than most sessions. Isaiah has a gorgeous car, and it meant a lot to him to have it in a few frames, so we headed to a rooftop parking garage in Southend with a view of the Charlotte skyline behind them. The light was gorgeous up there, the city was glowing behind them, and Isaiah’s car gave the whole set of images a sleek, editorial feel. If you’re planning your own Uptown Charlotte engagement session and you have something (or someone!) special you want included, tell your photographer. It’s such a fun way to personalize your photos!
From there we made our way to Romare Bearden Park for the second half of the session, with views of the French Quarter fountain and the downtown Charlotte skyline as our backdrop. This park is one of my absolute favorite spots for Charlotte skyline engagement photos. It’s got that mix of city energy and green space that photographs beautifully no matter the season, and it gives couples so many different backdrops in one location. I absolutely love the fountain as a backdrop for some beautiful photos!
Nyazia and Isaiah color coordinated their outfits for the shoot (a black suit with red accents for him, a stunning red dress for her), and it made every single frame pop against the park’s greenery and the city skyline. They also brought custom wine glasses for their toast, filled with cranberry juice standing in as their “wine” for the photos (smart move for a hot summer evening). Little details like that are exactly what I love helping couples plan for their session. They photograph beautifully and they make the images feel like them.
And it was hot. Charlotte in July does not play around, but Nyazia and Isaiah handled it like pros. They laughed through the sweat, kept their energy up between locations, and were just genuinely so sweet to be around all evening. Sessions like this are exactly why I love what I do!
Nyazia and Isaiah are getting married next fall at Turkey Ridge, and after spending an evening with them, I can already tell their wedding day is going to be full of the same joy and ease they brought to their engagement session. I cannot wait to be back behind the camera for them!
