Spring into Action: Preparing for Your Spring Photo Session

Jessica and Bryan snuggle under a beautiful cherry blossom tree as petals fall all around them.

Spring is my favorite time here in the Carolinas! As a NC Wedding and Portrait Photographer, I LIVE for the beauty and grace that spring brings with all the gorgeous blooms. The beautiful weather and blooming flowers creates the perfect backdrop for your pictures! However, to ensure that your spring photography session is a success, preparation is key! In this blog post, I’ll share some tips to help you prepare for your upcoming spring photo shoot.

Pick Your Blooms!

Here is in the Charlotte, NC area, we are blessed with a huge variety of flowering foliage! From peach blossoms, to cherry blossoms, to wisteria, to tulips, springtime is an extraordinary canvas of pastel colors! The blooms don’t last long though; about 2 weeks at the most. And different foliage blooms at different times, so it’s important to plan your session based on the blooms you want!

Blooms can be very tricky to time correctly, so if you’re interested in setting up a spring photoshoot, it’s important to contact your photographer in January, before the weather starts to warm up and the blooms start to pop!

A few of my favorite spots for spring blooms are Lineberger’s Maple Springs Farm, Howard Family Farms, and Marshall Park!

Preparing for the Session

Choosing the right location is crucial for a successful spring photography session! As your photographer, I will help you pick a location where foliage is in bloom so that we can capture some magic during your session! In addition, you’ll want to plan for the weather, which can be unpredictable during springtime. It’s a really good idea to bring layers or jackets in case the weather suddenly changes!

When deciding on your outfit, choose colors and patterns that complement the spring environment. Soft pastels, florals, and light fabrics are great options for a spring photoshoot. You can also bring props or accessories that add interest to your photos, such as umbrellas, hats, or bicycles.

Photography Techniques

As your photographer and someone who absolutely LOVES springtime blooms, I have tons of techniques to capture the beauty of spring in your photos! Lighting can be tricky during springtime, as the sun can be bright and harsh. We’ll schedule our session during golden hour, when the light is softer and more flattering!

I Want to Hear Your Ideas!

To make the most of your time, create a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere. Creating a mood board or shot list that aligns with your vision that you share with me is a great way to turn your vision into a reality!

Preparation is key for a successful spring photography session. By choosing the right location, outfit, and props, and by collaborating with your photographer, you’ll create beautiful photos that capture the essence of spring. With the tips provided in this blog post, you’re now ready to spring into action and prepare for your upcoming photo shoot!
